Natalie

Natalie was once a “barn laid egg producing hen”. Once she reached 12 to 18 months of age and was no longer considered a consistent layer she was scheduled for slaughter. Luckily, after a donation from a person who wished for Big Ears to rescue some hens, Big Ears was able to purchase a number of these hens destined for death at such a young age and bring them to the Sanctuary. Natalie, like many of her other hen friends, was at first quite overwhelmed. However, it didn’t take long and Natalie was stretching her wings into the sunlight as well as taking a dust bath.

Natalie is a happy girl who spends her mornings snoozing under the tree branches and then she has a peck around the yard with her friends.

Flockie RIP

Flockie is one of 8 bunnies surrendered to in August 2013. Flockie had dermatitis on his legs from living in mud and being wet. He was also underweight. Flockie received vaccination, vitamin injections, anti inflammatory treatment and antibiotics. He also required twice a day cream to his legs and underneath. Thanks to our wonderful volunteers Flockie was able to be nursed back to health and he is a real charmer.

Peppermint RIP

This little baby is named Peppermint and she was born at Big Ears after we took in 8 rabbits mid August 2013. Her mother Rose was already pregnant with the babies when she arrived and she gave birth to 4 babies.

Buddy (RIP)

Buddy is a groovy pig with loads of attitude. He is smart and sassy and loves to go for a walk with his human parents.

Buddy calls Big Ears his home after he out grew his suburban home and needed to go somewhere that he would be safe and could be a pig for the rest of his days. Buddy has recently moved in with a number of other piggies and has made friends.

Miss Swanee

Meet Miss Swanee. Yes she could be considered to be a Swans supporter even though she is in fact a hen.

Janey (RIP)

Janey the hen came to live at Big Ears as part of a large group of hens and roosters we had surrendered to us in 2010.
