Buffy arrived at the Sanctuary in 2006 and passed away April 2012

Opie (RIP)

Opie (Oprah) the goat came to live at Big Ears with her friend Wilbur the sheep (now rehomed) after Opie and Wilbur could not be contained on their property. They were both escaping and ending up on a highway. Obviously their humans were quite concerned and looked for a new home for them. Opie lives with the rest of the goat herd but is always a little stand offish and likes her own company.

Joey (RIP)

Joe the goat was found beside the road without any family or people around. It looked as if he had been dumped. He was very scared and in poor condition. Luckily for Joe the person who found him was a vet nurse and she checked him over and found a paralysis tick which was making him very sick. He was taken to her vet clinic and rehabilitated whilst an owner was looked for. Once it became apparent that no one was going to claim Joe, Big Ears were asked if they could assist. Joe is now a very happy resident of Big Ears and enjoys living with his rabbit and chicken friends.

Joe was put to sleep on the 21/09/16. He had faulty heart valves. We are not sure what caused this, it could have been genetic, age, or as a result of a previous infection as a young goat.

He will be missed by all at Big Ears, especially by his best goat friend Scallywag.

Homer (RIP)

Homer the goat who was surrendered to Big Ears on 27 August 2014 as his human could not keep him in their yard and the neighbours complained about him escaping into their yard and eating the garden. Homer was supposed to be a miniature goat, but clearly is not, and this meant the fencing they had would not keep him in and he couldn’t hang with his friends as he had to be tethered. As a result he was lonely and bleated which also made the neighbours unhappy. Homer has a forever home at Big Ears.
