![]() | The King of the Rabbit Warren passed away on 15 May 2011 after a long battle with teeth problems. Wilbur and Snowy were Big Ears' first rabbits, they came from the RSPCA. Jacqui quickly fell in love with them and has never looked back having rescued over 100 rabbits since that time. Many of the rabbits call the Sanctuary their forever home. Wilbur's legacy will live on with plans to extend the rabbit pens and one day have a rabbit adoption barn. Thankyou Wilbur for all you have taught us. |

Holly was also a rescue from a shelter. She had been terrorised by a neighbourhood dog and her owners no longer wished to keep her. With lots of love and patience, Holly has become a very confident bunny that seeks out human attention and is no longer alarmed at the dogs barking. Mopsy was seized by the local authorities when people moved out of their home and left him behind. He was found underweight and his ears had been painted multi-coloured. He came to the sanctuary in 2007 and hasn’t looked back. |

The only member of Big Ears that is an agistment is beautiful Crackers. He is 36 years old and living his golden years with us. His mum visits regularly and finances his 3 special meals a day. Crackers is pictured here with a dear Big Ears friend - Jake. Crackers passed away on 18 April 2010 from a stroke. He is remembered as a gentle boy with a very big heart. |

Scooter was one of a nine rabbit rescue. Her ear had been deliberately cut off and her and her siblings had been dumped in a box. Once at the sanctuary she thrived and was a loving, happy bunny. Unfortunately in April 2010 Scooter passed away. | ![]() |
![]() | In 2008 we received two large old sows from the RSPCA. Their owner had died and the family didn't want them. We named them Princess and Queenie and they enjoyed nothing more than to lie in the sun until feed time. Both Queenie and Princess passed away in 2009. |
![]() | The sanctuary also has a pair of rescued cockatiels and a white dove named Dolly. Big Ears does not believe in the keeping of birds in cages and the birds at the sanctuary live in purpose built flight centres. Sadly Dolly has passed away and the Bernard's have been re-homed. |
Ringo was a rescue from a shelter. Nothing is known about him other than we think he is quite elderly as he is unable to see or hear. Despite this he quite happily moves about his pen and interacts with Webster the other guinea pig and his 2 rabbit friends. Holly can be seen grooming Ringo, it is as if she knows he needs special care. Ringo passed away in September 2009. | ![]() |

The sanctuary had two sulpher crested cockatoo's that both came together from the RSPCA. The male is called Peacetrain and the female Rory. Rory was named after Rory Freedman the co-author of Skinny Bitch. An inspiring book about what we should eat and more importantly, what we shouldn't. If this book doesn't turn you vegan - we don't know what will. More info at www.skinnybitch.net Rory and Peacetrain aged 15 years and 25 years, although it is unknown which one is aged which. Caged birds are not something we normally support but in this instance we decided to take them so that we could ensure they ended up in a large aviary with plenty of room to fly. We have purpose built them a large flight cage so that they no longer have to exhibit signs of boredom at being confined in a small enclosure. Rory is missing feathers from her face as PeaceTrain picked at her when he was bored or anxious and she was unable to get away from him due to the small cage. Sadly Rory passed away in December 2009. In January 2010 Peacetrain went to a new home to live with a new partner. |
